Su Legno

Su Legno (”on wood” in Italian) is an independent, artisinal beer brewing company. They demonstrate a unique desire to experiment with, and evolve the beer drinking experience. Using techniques inspired by the past and refining the process with modern technology, they create truly outstanding beers that have a spectrum of drinkability ranging from: drinking in the park with friends to pairing with a fine cheese. 

I was reached out to, to create a distinctive brand identity from scratch that could evoke the equal importance of heritage and innovation. Thorough research led me to looking to the past, utilising visual cues from Italian Modernism and Futurismo - two design movements that shaped the illustrative and typography styles found throughout the identity. The labels themselves were designed to emphasise the importance of the brewers unique selling proposition of ‘barrel fermented ales’. I found it absolutely necessary to own the barrel as a distinctive brand asset, thus, the labels have been diecut to a barrel shape - making them stand out on a shelf. I designed a suite of logos and illustrations to be used across all web, social and print functions.
